In the name of Sandro Botticelli: Feminine Alex and Masculine Alex

Photoshop, satin paper, matt paper, MDF board

I have chosen Botticelli's Venus and Mars because the audience doesn't have the know the story between these two characters, we are guessing what has happened. The satrys are making sounds in the painting which works with my photoshop. The mythical creatures are also humorous from their expressions and playfulness, I have highlighted this in my work through the different approaches of photography. The humour softens the political blow of gender and masculinities/femininities.

My Venus has become my own beauty. She has been represented differently throughout history, in one case she was a shapeshifter of desire between male and female, this works for who I am.

My Mars has been enlarged to show the differences in Botticelli's scale since I am using photo college I am unable to make myself smaller.
I have added his loincloth to represent how the Renaissance shows their genitalia as one or the other.

In my piece, I have carefully kept the background similar to Botticelli's painting to show the importance of me being there and respect for him.

Ideally, I want the audience to be challenged by gender, history, body image and identity through my own masculinities and femininities.
This piece has been influenced by the performance of the painting because it states that there are more than the two binaries.
